Alaska Airlines Operations Halted Throughout America Because of Technical Failure

Alaska Airlines grounded flights due to IT outage

Alaska Airlines grounded flights at all US airports on the day due to a technical issue.

The US carrier announced that it was "facing an IT outage impacting operations" and implemented "an operational pause."

The airline did not say how long the disruption would last or the number of flights were affected. It stated it was "actively restoring our services" following the outage.

The ground stop also affected Horizon Air, which is operated by the parent company, according to an notice by the Federal Aviation Administration.

The airline, a member of The Alaska Air Group headquartered in the Pacific Northwest, primarily operates on the western seaboard of the United States. It services numerous locations worldwide, including multiple states and dozens of nations, as stated on its online platform.

Previously, the carrier merged with another carrier, which was not impacted by Thursday's flight suspension.

It is the second technical failure impacting the airline this year. Earlier this year, an outage disrupted operations for about several hours.

Alaska Airlines did not provide a comment on the day to requests for comment.

US air travel has been disrupted in the past few weeks due to the US government shutdown that started recently. Lack of flight controllers reporting for duty has caused delays at multiple locations.
