Royal Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have operated alongside French aircraft in a coordinated attack targeting an subterranean weapons facility in Syrian territory used by the IS group, as stated by the UK's MoD.
The site, identified by intelligence, was assessed as storing arms and explosives, the release indicated, and was positioned in mountainous terrain just to the north of the historic site of Palmyra in Syria's central region.
"Our aircraft utilized laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to strike a number of approach shafts leading to the depot... early reports suggest the strike was effective," the MoD said.
There was no evidence of any harm to civilians in the attack conducted Saturday night and every plane involved returned safely, the defence officials confirmed.
The Typhoon FGR4s were backed up by a Voyager refuelling tanker.
Daesh - also known as ISIS - enforced militant control over large swathes of Syria and Iraq until 2019.
"This operation demonstrates the UK's leading role, and determination to operate in unison with our allies, to eradicate any resurgence of IS and their dangerous and violent ideologies in the region," UK Defence Secretary the minister said.
British military aircraft have carried out overwatch operations over Syria to "deter any efforts to regroup" of Islamic State following its defeat at the climactic battle in Baghuz in 2019, the ministry said.
"I must thank the personnel of our armed forces participating in this strike for their professionalism and their bravery," the Defence Secretary commented. "They were among numerous British personnel deployed over the holidays. This mission, to take out dangerous terrorists who endanger our security, shows how UK forces are ready to step up, throughout the year, protecting the UK within its borders and strong abroad."
Last December, the United States armed forces executed what it termed a "major assault" against Daesh sites in the country, after an ambush resulted in the deaths of two US servicemembers and a civilian interpreter in Palmyra.
The UN says IS still has roughly 5-7 thousand militants in Iraq and Syria.
